The Oilfield Workers Trade Union, OWTU is calling on the management of Trinidad Cement Limited (TCL) to conduct thorough investigations into the tragic death of Gavin Ramoutar.
In extending condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of the deceased, the OWTU labelled Ramoutar’s death as avoidable. They encouraged all employers to remember the value of human life and maintain proper Health and Safety guidelines at high-risk facilities.
The recognized majority union urged TCL to ensure that all responsible parties are held accountable for the tragic loss. Consistent with the OSH Act, the union demanded full transparency with the OWTU and their inclusion on all investigations pertaining to the accident.
Ramoutar, a labourer at the Trinidad Cement Limited (TCL), Mayo Plant for the past 10 years, was crushed to death early on Wednesday morning while on the job.
Following the incident, TCL confirmed that an investigation had been launched.
