Jamaica has confirmed its first case of Monkeypox.
Its Health Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton, made the announcement on Wednesday afternoon, stating that the patient is a male who recently travelled from the United Kingdom. The man reportedly presented to the public health system on Tuesday July 5th, but has been on the island five days prior. Jamaica’s Prime Minister Andrew Holness also confirmed the news in a post to his Facebook page.
Dr. Tufton said the patient has been isolated with his close contacts also in quarantine. Due to this case, he said the country has activated its emergency protocols.
