There are two facilities for the care of street dwellers in Port of Spain.
Confirmation during a meeting on Friday of the Joint Select Committee appointed to inquire and report into Human Rights, Equality and Diversity.
The first facility is under the guidance of the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services.
The St. Vincent de Paul facility houses 112 street dwellers.
This leaves a total of 219 homeless persons residing on the City’s streets.
Port of Spain Mayor Joel Martinez notes the other facility is managed by the Corporation.
Mayor Martinez is appealing to corporate Trinidad and Tobago to assist by providing one day of meals, one day of doctoring services, or any other contribution to help the street dwellers.
