Latapy Resigns As Barbados Head Coach

Russell Latapy has resigned as Head Coach of the Barbados Senior Men’s National Team and is due to take up a new role in Australia’s A League.

Latapy’s resignation was confirmed by BFA President Randy Harris and TTT Sport has been reliably informed that after a short vacation in the UAE, he will head down under to begin a new challenge.

Latapy was announced as Head Coach of the Tridents in 2019 and earned them promotion to League B of the Concacaf Nation’s League during his tenure. However, calls for his ouster have grown louder in recent weeks after Barbados lost all four matches in the June window of the 2022-2023 edition. Defeats to Cuba, Antigua and Barbuda and Guadeloupe twice in the four-match window saw Barbados rooted to the bottom of Group A. Barbados are currently on a 15-match losing streak, having scored just once in their last six.

Despite this, several members of the Barbados National Team indicated that they would become unavailable should the 2006 World Cup player be sacked. The BFA had guaranteed his security of tenure but now it seems Latapy has decided in a change of scenery.

On July 1st, Latapy’s longtime national teammate and friend Dwight Yorke will assume the Head Coach job at Macarthur FC in the Australian A-League.

We’ll have more details on this latest development as they come to hand.
