Livestock Training For Wallerfield Youth Farming Group

The Regional Administration North (RAN) is currently conducting a training workshop for members of the Wallerfield Youth Farming Group.

In November 2021, Mr. Jahmali Samuel, Group Leader of a Wallerfield Youth farming group, requested technical training in livestock production from the Ministry of Agriculture (MALF). As a result of this request, the Livestock Extension Unit of the Regional Administration North (RAN) Division subsequently introduced a technical livestock programme for youths between the ages of 15-38. The eight ( 8 ) week online programme commenced on February 8th, 2022 and included seven ( 7 ) participants from the Wallerfield Youth Farming Group. The course covers both the technical and practical aspects of animal husbandry in broilers, layers, ducks, rabbits, pigs, sheep, and goats. The program also consists of thirty (30) contact hours and is due to end on March 31st, 2022, with other similar training programs to be scheduled at a later date.

On March 15th, 2022, some members of the Wallerfield Youth Farming Group were given the opportunity by the MALF to visit the Sugarcane Feeds Centre in Longdenville, as the experience would have assisted them in having a better appreciation of the relevant topics which were taught to them during their virtual training. At the end of their tour, the young farmers expressed great satisfaction and thanked the Ministry for all the assistance provided to them thus far.
