Lunch For A Cause

The Women in Action for the Needy and Destitute (WAND) today hosted their “Fascinating Christmas Lunch.”
The most fascinating thing about the event was that all proceeds raised are used to continue the work that WAND does for the vulnerable in Trinidad and Tobago.

President of Women in Action for the Needy and Destitute or WAND Amanda Jardine shared that WAND was able to support three major initiatives in 2024.

“So where do we spend this moolah? We have a lot of small donations and we also have big donations. The first being the Couva Children’s Nursing Home. Through their donations, they repaired damaged windows as well as replaced mosquito nets. Second on their list was the expansion of therapy spaces at the Caribbean Kids and Families Therapy Organization CKFTO pediatric sensory gym. And the third donation was done at a total of $800,000 to build and complete the new WAND wing at the shelter for domestic violence. I am happy to announce that the structural work will be complete this week. The floors, exterior walls, staircase and roof are all complete and on schedule.”

Ms. Jardine said WAND continues to build on the legacy of its founders through fundraisers, including the popular Denim and Diamonds event and the recent Hole-in-One Golf Tournament, which collectively raised over $300,000 this year.

Ms Jardine concluded with a call for kindness.

“Even being a hero for just one day, through one act of kindness, a listening ear, a moment of generosity or a gesture of support can create a ripple effect that changes lives. Let’s commit to creating a world where kindness isn’t an exception, but a habit.”

Among those attending the charitable lunch was the Prime Minister’s wife, Mrs Sharon Clarke-Rowley and other cabinet ministers.
