Another achievement for Destination Trinidad!
The vessel, Majestic Princess, graced our shores on Wednesday in a first for this country.
To commemorate this inaugural visit, a ceremony was held on board the ship, where officials from Tourism Trinidad Limited and the captain and crew of the Majestic Princess exchanged crests. This is part of standard maritime practice and a means of highlighting the longstanding commitment of Princess Cruises to Destination Trinidad.
Following the brief ceremony, the captain of Majestic Princess, Giuseppe Castellano, revealed that this was not his first time to Destination Trinidad. He said he instantly fell in love with the island and was pleased to return and give the opportunity for his over 5,000 passengers and crew to experience the island’s warmth.
“You guys, because your kind, kindness and warmth here as we arrive already this morning was very nice. So, you, you, you take us already.”
Chairman of Tourism Trinidad Limited, Keiba Jacob Mottley, said she is pleased that a cruise ship of such high esteem paid a visit to Destination Trinidad and that it augurs well for our tourism industry.
“It’s amazing, and also it’s their first of two trips for this season, so they’ll be back here in a few weeks as well so that’s just really great for us, and for our tourism industry.”
She said visitor safety is of utmost importance and has ensured that this is given priority.
“We work closely in partnership with the Ministry of National Security and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service to provide a safe and secure environment for all of our visitors. We have two categories of visitors. So some visitors do guided tours on buses and maxis, and then we have some visitors who walk through the city of Port of Spain, and we have Tour Ambassadors who will guide them through that journey.”
Following their departure, the Majestic Princess will visit Aruba and Curacao before returning to Florida.
Twenty-two ships will call on Destination Trinidad during the cruise season.
