Manhunt Underway For Suspect In Double Murder

A manhunt is underway for the man responsible for this year’s first double murder.

The suspect, believed to be a member of the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force, shot and killed a mother and daughter in Point Cumana on Tuesday.

According to police reports, at around 11:15am, 43 year old Calida Schamber and 66 year old Carmilita De Leon were at their home in Shorelands, Point Cumana, Carenage when the suspect entered the house and shot them. Both women died at the scene.

The suspect was charged last December and granted bail for a Breach of Protection Order and for assaulting Schamber.

While he is still currently at large, Assistant Police Commissioner Winston Maharaj is assuring the public that the police are doing everything in their power to make an arrest.

The police are also seeking the public’s assistance in this matter.
