Today, the Minster of Energy and Energy Industries and Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Stuart R Young, and Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Penelope Bradshaw-Niles, toured Woodside Energy’s contracted Controlled Source Electromagnetic Survey vessel docked in Chaguaramas.
Also present during the tour were Woodside Energy’s Country Manager Juan Vazquez, Dr. Carla Noel-Mendez Corporate Affairs Manager, Kerry Nicholas Superintendent Seismic and Survey Operations. The tour was conducted by Electromagnetic Geoservices, the owners of the vessel.
Woodside Energy is carded to commence their Controlled Source Electromagnetic (CSEM) survey in October 2022. The survey will provide valuable information about their Calypso Project. Calypso sits within the Deepwater Block 23(a) and TTDAA 14 leased block, offshore Trinidad and Tobago where hydrocarbons have been discovered. It is the country’s first major discovery in this location.
Mrs. Nicholas explained that the survey will cover at least 1600 square kilometers at a depth of 2200 meters and take approximately 70 days to complete after which the data gathered will be analyzed by the technical experts on the vessel. Representing the Government Minister Young expressed his eagerness to view the facilities and stressed the importance of the project to the people of Trinidad and Tobago as it is another critical step towards the development of our deep water resources.
This is the first time that this type of Electromagnetic Survey is being conducted in Trinidad and Tobago. It is being done to plot the seabed in the deep water to gather necessary information for the development of Woodside Energy’s Calypso Project. Minister Young said, “This is a significant and historic survey which indicates Woodside Energy’s continued commitment to exploring and pursuing the opportunities of developing our deep water resources. I look forward to being appraised on the outcome of this survey.”
