Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh has highlighted some of the plans for the constituency of Aranguez/St. Joseph should he be re-elected as the Parliamentary representative.
Speaking on Talk City 91.1FM’s Titans of Democracy programme on Monday, the former Member of Parliament said while a lot of work has been done in the constituency over the last ten years, there is much more to be done. As such, he said schools, homes, Community Centres, and a more reliable water supply are on the cards for the constituency.
“We want to restart the Mt. Hope Secondary School. We want to restart the St. Joseph Secondary School. Those are two biggies. I have gotten Cabinet approval for that. That is two biggies. MTS has gone out to look for tenders for the Mt. Hope Secondary School and once we get back into office, a similar thing will happen with the St. Joseph Secondary School.”
The former MP added that a reliable water supply remains an issue in the area, though quite a lot of work has already been done to bring this essential commodity to residents.
He also noted that the Government has worked to provide low-cost housing to dozens of families in the area.
“We built thirty-nine. Now, what is an HPIV House? Housing and Village Improvement Programme. Everybody knows we have a problem with housing, but HDC housing is for those who are employed and who have a certain income. But there are many people who don’t have an income, who don’t have a roof over their head. This Government pioneered something called the HVIP Programme in Moruga.”
First launched in the Moruga area, the HVIP spread to other parts of the country, including St. Joseph.
“We have built thirty-nine of those in the constituency. From Pick Ax Trace to Maitagual, to Farm Road to Bangladesh to Mt. D’or to Hope Place to Blunton. Those are just some of the areas I could remember. So, thirty-nine families who had no hope in hell, not a snowball’s chance in hell of having a roof over their heads now have that.”
The former MP also discussed the nation’s health issues under his portfolio as Minister of Health during his two-hour segment on the radio talk show.
