Minister Of Public Utilities Expresses Disappointment With Desalcott’s Decision To Shut Down Plant

Minister of Public Utilities, Marvin Gonzales, has expressed disappointment with the decision taken by DESALCOTT to shutdown their Point Lisas plant to undertake maintenance work.

In a statement, he said over the weekend he instructed WASA to reschedule the maintenance work with DESALCOTT, given the extreme circumstances faced by the public as a result of high levels of rain and flooding in some parts of the country. However, DESALCOTT, as of yesterday, proceeded with their maintenance works at the plant.

Works at the plant are expected to span 10 days.

As a result of these maintenance works, affected areas will include Caroni, Charlieville, Chaguanas, Couva, Marabella, San Fernando, Palmiste, Fyzabad, and Penal and environs.

DESALCOTT’s plant currently provides 40 million gallons per day to the Point Lisas Estate which supplies the Central and South regions.
