Minister in the Ministry of National Security, Keith Scotland, believes the current State of Emergency has reaped “tangible benefits.”
Speaking to reporters after the reopening of the Brasso Police Station on Wednesday afternoon, Mr. Scotland refuted claims that it has not been effective.
“If you look at the comparison between the murder rate last year at this time and now, and I think Acting DCP Simon can confirm it is down by 50%. Am I correct? 45%, almost 50%. That is a tangible benefit. Now, we want more tangible benefits and we want it to be done faster, even though incrementally, because it is still not at a level that is satisfactory, but that is a tangible benefit, and we want more.”
Minister Scotland reminded that the current SOE is geared toward a particular aspect of society and noted a more effective Police Service.
“It is harder police work and serious police work around this time, and there is greater collaboration of all constituents of the forces that are there to serve and protect.”
