Key Points From the Ministry of Health’s Virtual Media Conference – Saturday 22nd January 2022
- Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh, announced that yesterday, the Pfizer vaccine was granted Emergency Use Authorization for children between ages 5 and 11, as a result the Ministry of Health has begun the process to rollout vaccines for this age group.
- Principal Medical Officer of Institutions, Dr. Maryam Abdool-Richards shared an update on the parallel health care system, stating that overall occupancy is at 61% with 435 patients in hospitals. Dr. Richards also indicated that currently 66 out of 80 ICU beds are in use, translating to an 83% capacity.
