Key Points From the Ministry of Health’s Virtual Media Conference – Saturday 23rd October 2021
– Principal Medical Officer of Institutions, Dr. Maryam Abdool-Richards stated that the hospital occupancy is now at 34%, but the ICU occupancy has been increasing on a daily basis due to the increasing number of severely and critically ill patients being admitted to Accident & Emergency.
– Dr. Richards also indicated that despite a 25% increase in occupancy of ICU beds in recent times, the majority of beds in the ICU are filled and there are 5 patients per day being admitted to ICU. Dr Richards also shared that 9/10 patients admitted in the parallel health care system are not fully vaccinated.
– Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh shared the vaccination figures and stated that 617,429 persons have received their 1st dose and 583,447 persons have completed their vaccination regime.
