Key Points From the Ministry of Health’s Virtual Media Conference – Wednesday 1st December 2021
- Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh shared the distribution of vaccinated and unvaccinated persons that have been admitted into the parallel healthcare system as reported on November 30th 2021. Unvaccinated persons account for 90.6% of patients which amount to 5,276 persons while there are only 576 vaccinated persons in the parallel healthcare system.
- Minister Deyalsingh also shared the information regarding COVID-19 deaths in T&T and stated that 96.2 of the fatalities were unvaccinated persons. Referring to the statistics recorded up to November 15th, the Minister indicated that 56 vaccinated persons and 1,411 unvaccinated persons succumbed to the virus.
- When responding to a question pertaining to the vaccine uptake of Nurses in T&T, the Health Minister admitted that the number should be higher as only 60-65% of nurses are fully vaccinated.
- Senior Paediatric Emergency Medicine Specialist, Dr. Joanne Paul stated that since the 12-17 age group of the population began to receive vaccine doses in September of this year, there have been 0 MIS-C cases reported from that group.
