Key Points From the Ministry of Health’s Virtual Media Conference – Wednesday 9th February 2022
- Minister of Health, Terrence Deyalsingh announced that due to the consistent decrease of COVID-19 patients requiring hospital care, the Point Fortin Hospital will be decommissioned as a COVID-19 facility and returned to the people as a General Hospital by approximately mid March.
- Minister Deyalsingh also indicated that that once Hospital numbers continue to decrease, the Arima Hospital will be the next COVID-19 Facility to be decommissioned and will open to the public as a General Hospital.
- Minister Deyalsingh announced that another 150,000 doses of the Pfizer Vaccine have been secured in 2 tranches of 75,000 doses, the first tranche is expected at the end of February.
- The Health Minister also stated that there has been a significant drop in children receiving the Mumps, Measles, Yellow Fever and Rubella vaccines with a current acceptance of 83-85%. Minister Deyalsingh noted that Herd Immunity for these diseases requires 95% of the population vaccinated and urged parents to take their children for ALL of the required vaccines even if primary schools are closed, to prevent a reemergence of these diseases.
