The Monkey Pox virus is not new and has been around for several years – and medical professionals are well equipped to deal with it, according to Professor of Virology at the School of Veterinary Medicine, Christopher Oura.
But he said what medical experts are observing is the biggest outbreak outside of Africa.
He said the symptoms are much more mild and image of the virus circulating online are only in severe cases.
Professor Oura said the rash is very itchy and can develop into fluid filled bumps on the skin. The bumps then burst and a pustular is formed, which later develops into a scab.
