A 41 year old primary school teacher died at hospital after chopping his wife to death and subsequently drinking a poisonous substance.
According to police reports, Amar Deobarran returned to his Oropouche South Trace, Barrackpore home at around 7.40 p.m.on Friday.
Armed with a cutlass, Deobarran went to a room at the back of the house where he dealt his wife Omatie Deobarran several blows about the body. A 13 year old who witnessed the incident called her grandparents and the police were alerted.
Deobarran then went to another part of the house and drank a lethal substance. He ran a short distance away and collapsed.
Police responded and found Omatie Deobarran dead at the scene of the crime. Amar Deobarran was rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital where he died at around 1.30 a.m. on Saturday.
Amar Deobarran was the head of department and Secondary Entrance Assessment teacher at the Avocat Vedic School.
Omatie Deobarran was an employee with Banker’s Insurance in Chaguanas.
The couple have two children.
