The National Racquet Centre will be the focus next week when the Davis Cup by Rakuten Americas Group Four Qualifies serves off.
Trinidad and Tobago will once again host the world cup of tennis, the 2022 Davis Cup by Rakuten after just over a decade.
One of the marquee events of international tennis, the week-long event will officially launch the Summer of Tennis at the National Racquet Centre.
In 2012 Tobago’s Shaw Park Complex welcomed the rest of the region, before that, in 2001, the Jean Pierre Complex provided the platform for T&T’s best performance at the tournament thus far. This time T&T seeks to improve on the past two editions of the Davis Cup on these shores with a truly international-level event.
Opened in September 2016, the National Racquet Centre on Orange Grove Road, Tacarigua is a facility fit for world-class athletes, coaches, and tournaments. It’s part of a facility cluster that includes the Eddie Hart Savannah, and the Eastern Regional Sporting Complex.
The Davis Cup’s American Zone Group IV features ten countries, the hosts Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Bermuda, Cuba, Haiti, Honduras, Nicaragua and the USVI, it’ll be an opportunity for talent to shine through but will also serve as a showcase of a venue that is well on its way to becoming a regional hub for racquet sports.
The main stadium’s Centre Court boasts a 1500 spectator capacity. There are six outdoor hard courts and two clay ones. Four indoor hard courts round out the array of playing surfaces. There are two cafeterias, two Conference rooms, two VIP Lounges as well as several opportunities for partnership throughout the facility.
After serving the national effort as a quarantine facility, during the pandemic, the National Racquet Centre is ready for showtime.
