New Orthopaedic Wing Opens At Princess Elizabeth Centre

The new wing of the Princess Elizabeth Centre was opened on Wednesday. Its purpose is to provide much needed medical care for children.

The Home opened its new Orthopaedic Ward and Operating Theatre before the pandemic.

Speaking at the opening, Health Minister Terrence Deyalsingh praised the opening, saying it will enhance the lives of many children in need.

Meanwhile President of the Children’s Ark, Simone de la Bastide, said the pandemic affected the construction works, which was expected to be completed in one year. However, she said the new wing was much needed, citing some issues experienced previously.

The Scotiabank Foundation, one of the donors toward the project, said in March that the new Orthopaedic Wing will increase the capacity and efficiencies of orthopaedic and rehabilitation services for an estimated 1,200 physically challenged children annually.
