The National Insurance Board (NIB) opened its new South Corporate Headquarters at Lady Hailes Avenue in San Fernando on Wednesday.
With 53 years of service, 14 locations, 23 available benefits, and over $6 billion paid in benefits annually, the National Insurance Board has impacted the lives of many.
According to the NIB’s Executive Director, Niala Persad-Poliah, the new South Corporate Headquarters will ensure that many more citizens have the opportunity to access benefits.
“Our former South Regional Office on Harris Promenade, many of you all may recall, was opened in November of 1994 by our then Prime Minister, the late Patrick Manning, and has served us well for over 30 years. This vibrant city and its rich heritage and progressive spirit mirrors the values that we hold dear: community, service, and resilience.”
Minister of Finance Vishnu Dhanpaul said that the government is committed to strengthening systems through improved customer service and technology, improving efficiency and making the NIB more agile and responsive.
“These upgrades are consistent with the government’s National Digital Transformation Agenda and reflect our goal of providing public services that are efficient, citizen-centred, and future-ready.”
The Minister emphasised the importance of social security in ensuring financial stability and protection against life’s uncertainties.
“A strong, well-managed insurance fund ensures that people can retire with dignity, recover from illness with security, and navigate life’s uncertainties with confidence. The government remains fully committed to strengthening the national insurance system. As Minister of Finance, I wish to reaffirm that the sustainability of this fund is one of our top priorities. Through ongoing actuarial reviews and policy reforms, we are working to secure the fund for the next 50 years and beyond.”
Fifty permanent members of staff will occupy the state-of-the-art facility, which includes meeting spaces and remote and flexible working options.
