Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley says the Opposition’s claims of an impending increase in Value Added Tax (VAT) are not true.
He was responding to Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s question during the Mid-Year Budget Review when she asked whether Government proposed to increase VAT, which currently stands at 12.5%, and impose other measures to generate revenue.
Mrs. Persad-Bissessar said she had proof in what she said was a Cabinet Note but during Thursday’s Post Cabinet Media Briefing, Dr. Rowley said the Opposition has no proof of an increase.
The Prime Minister also described her statements during the debate as disturbing.
