The Darren Bravo lead North put themselves in a commanding position at stumps on day one of the North South Classic at the National Cricket Centre in Couva.
South took first strike and were immediately put on the back foot, loosing two wickets with the score on just 20. But top notch batter Jyd Goolie gave the southerners some hope as he dug deep to pile on a top score of 53. Yanick Cariah took charge with his leg spin bagging four wickets for 28 runs ably assisted by Kharry Pierre who took 3 scalps. South eventually concluded their first innings on 141 all out.
North batted patiently when they took to the crease, as openers Vikash Mohan who finished not out on nine and Keegan Simmons closing on 26 not out, made the south bowlers toil in the setting sun. When the stumps were flicked off, north went to bed on 47 without loss, setting a solid foundation for the second day of play.
