Over 7,000 Speeding Tickets Issued, TTPS Urges Motorists To Slow Down

Senior Superintendent of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch, Wayne Mystar, has warned drivers to obey speed limits and not use their mobile phones while driving. This, as TTPS issued over 7,000 speeding tickets so far for 2022.

According to the Senior Superintendent, data indicates that officers have issued 7,011 fixed penalty notices to motorists for exceeding the speed limit, while 3,098 were issued for using or holding a mobile phone while driving.

The TTPS is reminding drivers to practice reducing speed and exercise greater care and caution on the nation’s roads, especially when in close proximity to cyclists and pedestrians.

According to data from the Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch Roadway Surveillance Unit, road traffic deaths have increased by 24% in 2022 with 62 fatalities, compared to 50 for the same period last year.
