Paxlovid To Treat Critically Ill COVID-19 Patients Only

While the Government has confirmed they are in negotiations with Pfizer for its oral anti-viral COVID-19 drug Paxlovid, Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh said the drug is only used to treat critically ill patients.

During a Sitting of the House of Representatives on Friday, Minister Deyalsingh said the Government will also consider other anti-viral drugs. But he made it clear they will be used for certain types of patients. He said the drugs are in short supply, adding that there are specific criteria for their use.

He also confirmed the Government is considering the anti-viral drug produced by Merck. Minister Deyalsingh could not confirm when the drugs will be delivered.
