Plans are underway for the construction of a Marina and Marina Related facilities in Canaan, Tobago.
The project is being undertaken by the Ministry of Works and Transport in collaboration with the National Infrastructural Development Company (NIDCO). Via their Facebook page on Monday, NIDCO informed they have applied for a Certificate of Clearance from the Environmental Management Agency.
According to the EMA’s Draft Terms of Reference, the total area for the proposed development is 15 hectares of which 10.4 will be reclaimed coastal area for the marina, boat repair and dry-docking facilities and a 50 to 100 room hotel. A residential resort, restaurant and water park are also to be constructed. The document outlined an administrative building to house Immigration and Customs services and a Coast Guard Support Building are also included. In addition, the Ministry plans to develop a private beach within the saltwater lagoon.
In keeping with the EMA’s requirement to circulate the Terms of Reference to key stakeholders, the NIDCO says comments are being accepted with a deadline of May 23rd.
