Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley is urging T&T Nationals to join with all Muslims today in celebration of Eid, recognising that in essence Islam means peace.
He said today more than ever, this land faces the challenges of a rising murder rate, which appears to be reflecting the mental state of our youths. He recalled that at the CARICOM Crime Symposium that was held earlier this week in Port of Spain, regional leaders were brought together to share their experiences of crime and violence and pointed to youth crime and violence as becoming a frightening problem in the Caribbean.
Dr. Rowley noted that the foundations of Islam warn that those who see only crime and violence but not the face of God in their actions, that they will face the consequences – even if they escape the hands of the law today. He believes this country can take this teaching into consideration in order to spread peace across our sacred land.
