PM Rowley: CARICOM Delegation To Observe Upcoming General Elections

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley says a delegation from CARICOM will be invited to observe Trinidad and Tobago’s General Elections.

Dr. Rowley gave the assurance earlier today while speaking on a Motion in the House of Representatives to Approve the Draft Elections and Boundaries Commission Order, 2024.

“I have already given the instructions, the Draft is prepared, any minute now it can come in front of me. I have already indicated to the Secretariat at CARICOM that the Government of Trinidad and Tobago is asking CARICOM to send a delegation whenever the election takes place in Trinidad and Tobago. We expect a CARICOM delegation. I would sign, it is due to come to me anytime now.”

With the next General Elections constitutionally due in 2025, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has repeatedly asked for international observers. However, Dr. Rowley maintains the Observer Team will be from within CARICOM.

“So we are going to have CARICOM. We are going to have CARICOM, I did receive from the Member, or some one of of her underlings, a list of all kinda Tom, Dick, and Harry, from oye-oh-hoh and Timbuktu, I am not inviting them here. I don’t know who they are, but I’m certainly going to ask CARICOM.”
