PM Rowley: Slow Rate Of Justice Unacceptable

Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley admits that he is unhappy with the slow rate of justice in society.

Speaking about the failure of the Bail Bill to be passed on Wednesday, Dr. Rowley said Government brought the Bill to seek the extension on behalf of the citizens.

The Prime Minister also justified using the Bill to help reduce criminal activity in the country. Dr. Rowley said the investments being made to improve the efficiency of the justice system are not being realised, pointing out that prisoners having to wait 15 years in remand is unacceptable.

Government sought to extend the life of the Bail Bill, which laid out the circumstances in which bail may be denied to a person who is charged for an offence that is punishable for a term of imprisonment for ten years or more.
