PM Tours Sangre Grande Hospital Campus

Prime Minister Stuart Young said he’s “extremely pleased” at the level of maintenance of the Sangre Grande Hospital Campus, exactly one year after its official opening.

Speaking to reporters following a tour of the hospital on Thursday, Mr. Young said he decided to do a ‘pop in’ tour of the facility after his Cabinet meeting, unknowingly on the first-year anniversary of the official ribbon-cutting.

“First of all, it is fully operational. Secondly, the type of equipment and services that are being offered here in the north-eastern peninsula of Trinidad is amazing. Thirdly, the level of maintenance, because that is a big, big part of the messaging we’ve been trying to get across, they’ve obviously taken it on board and the maintenance here at this hospital is amazing, and I want them to keep it up. I’ve been told by the Minister of Health that some of the newer facilities that we’ve opened, Point Fortin is the same thing, the Diego Martin Health Centre. And then the last thing I’m particularly pleased about is when you look around the number of young members of staff.”

Prime Minister Young also described the country’s health sector as a “robust” one.

“I am again, as a citizen, proud because the type of services we are able to get from the public health care system free of charge, and that really is what I’m fighting to defend. That’s what I’ve been fighting to get more revenues from our oil and gas, over the last nine and a half years, to ensure that we can not only build these types of facilities, but make sure that you have the medical staff, the drugs. You’ve seen it. The state-of-the-art facilities here and technology here. The type of MRI machine, et cetera. So I am very, very happy and very proud of what we’ve been able to achieve.”
