As accolades come in for the late William ‘Sonny’ McKenzie of Mckenzie Lane in Lambeau, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley says he was an inspiration to all in the PNM, and a mentor to many.
He says the PNM family extends their deepest condolences to his loved ones, as they face the enormity of this loss.
Dr. Rowley notes that in Mr. McKenzie’s 33-year political career spanning from 1980 to 2013 – as representative for the Lambeau/Signal Hill district – he sat in the majority party only once and in the Opposition all the rest of his years. This, Dr. Rowley says, shows the mettle of the man.
Dr. Rowley adds that Mc Kenzie was old school – he placed great value on dignified conduct, respect, and always protecting one’s good name. These qualities, he says, allowed him to transcend party politics and in that way, he represented the best of the PNM.
