Trinidad and Tobago is making waves in the maritime world.
The Port of Brighton in La Brea has achieved a historic first, not just for the country but for the entire Caribbean. It’s now officially certified as a ‘Green Port.’
Operated by LABIDCO, the port is now the first in Trinidad and Tobago and CARICOM to earn the EcoPorts, Ports Environmental Review System, or PERS certification. This prestigious accolade recognises ports that go above and beyond to meet strict environmental and sustainability standards. The certification, awarded in December, puts Brighton in an exclusive group of 66 EcoPorts facilities worldwide.
Energy Minister Stuart Young called the achievement a “milestone” for the region, while LABIDCO Chairman Dr. Joseph Khan praised the team for their leadership in sustainable port operations.
As the first “Green Port” in the Caribbean, the Port of Brighton is setting a powerful example, paving the way for a more environmentally responsible future in the region’s maritime industry.
