PowerGen’s Decommissioned Site To Form Part Of Revitalisation Plans For Capital City

The PowerGen site on Wrightson Road will form part of the revitalisation of the city of Port of Spain following the decommissioning of the plant.

Last week, the company began the removal of the four silver sentinels that have overlooked the capital city for 60 years.

General Manager of PowerGen, Surindranath Ramsingh, said the company has been in talks with UDeCOTT for future plans for the site.

Mr. Ramsingh said the demolition at the site will take place from 6am to 6pm every day and will have little effect on the residents of the area, except for minor noise and dust.

He also confirmed that it will not affect the national grid as there is adequate generation, at the company’s other two sites, to meet the demand.

Mr. Ramsingh said at the outset, the project is expected to take two years to complete.
