Pre-Emancipation Activities – Kwame Ture Memorial Lecture Series

One of the key events in the Pre-Emancipation Day activities is the Kwame Ture Memorial Lecture Series.

Kwame Ture, who was born in Trinidad, was a prominent organiser in the Civil Rights Movement in the United States and the global Pan-African movement. His original name was Stokely Carmichael.

Dr. Asha Kambon of the Emancipation Support Committee said Mr. Ture’s work in the Black Power Movement must always be celebrated as there were positive effects in other countries.
