Prime Minister Young Promises Increased Wages For Nurses

Prime Minister Stuart Young has instructed that wage talks commence between the Chief Personnel Officer and the Trinidad and Tobago Registered Nurses Association (TTRNA).

Represented by President Idi Stuart and General Secretary Corey Dillon, the TTRNA met with the Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Vishnu Dhanpaul on Wednesday at the Diplomatic Centre.

Later, on the political platform in Laventille, the Prime Minister announced that negotiations for nursing personnel in Trinidad will begin soon.

“As I stand here tonight as the eighth Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, I tell our nurses, who are doing yeoman service, who save lives and who look after us in the hospitals and the healthcare centres, that this morning I gave instructions that that be fixed and that the CPO look at giving our nurses increases from 2013.”

The Prime Minister also noted that, once elected back into government, he will ensure that students pursuing nursing at the University of the West Indies and the University of the Southern Caribbean are on par with those studying at COSTAATT.

“Nursing students, tonight the next PNM government that I intend on leading from the 29th of April will address this, and the nursing students in UWI and USC will get the same stipend as those in COSTAATT.”
