There has been a cutback in production at the Point Lisas Desalination Plant, affecting water supply to parts of Central and South Trinidad.
According to an advisory from the Water and Sewerage Authority, WASA, Desalcott which normally supplies the Authority with 40 million gallons of water per day has cut back production to 36 million gallons per day.
It stated that this is due to high algae concentrations at this time in the raw sea water at the intake area of the Plant.
WASA added that these conditions are being closely monitored and Desalcott has advised that the facility will return to normal full production as soon as conditions allow.
Due to this customers may experience low pressures or a disruption in their normal scheduled water supply from as far as Caroni, Cunupia, Chaguanas and Chase Village in Central, to Debe, La Romain, South Oropouche, Rousillac and San Francique among others in South Trinidad.
