A “reporting mechanism” is being proposed to ensure Local Government bodies use the funds they receive from Property Tax for its intended purpose.
This was revealed by Finance Minister Colm Imbert during debate on the Valuation of Land (Amendment) Bill 2023. He said this will ensure checks and balances to ensure Local Government bodies use the collected taxes for local infrastructure and specific services.
Minister Imbert said with the implementation of the residential property tax, the population should no longer hear the excuse from Local Government bodies that there’s no available resources to carry out their function.
