The voting process in East Trinidad was generally described as smooth.
Speaking to reporters on Monday, the People’s National Movement candidate for Arouca/Lopinot, Marvin Gonzales, said the constituency is expected to have a great voter turnout.
“In my constituency of Arouca/Lopinot, the report I’ve had so far is that in the first hour, we had a number of people going to the various polling divisions and registering their votes. So, so far, I can tell you the turnout from voters has been very, very significant, and I am happy to hear that and we expect that at the end, at 6pm today, we should have a healthy voter turnout overall.”
PNM candidate for the Arima constituency, Pennelope Beckles-Robinson, said although six weeks was a short time to prepare for this Election Day, the engagement she had with her constituents was positive.
“Six weeks, I think, your constituents, the voters โ people continue to have their expectations. I mean, there’s always a lot of questions about, you know, delivery in terms of projects. Constituents, once they can engage you, so there was a lot of engaging, which I find actually very good. I didn’t have the issue of people talking about not seeing you.”
While most indicated an overall smooth voting process, United National Congress candidate for Chaguanas West, Neil Gosine, said his experience was different.
“The process is a bit slow. They’re mixing up the consecutive numbers, and we have a problem in 1506 โ not proper training from what I have seen. I took about 40 minutes to vote.”
He said he would reach out to his party headquarters to see how this could be addressed.
