Social Development Ministry Pledges Continued Support For NGOs

The importance of collaboration was underscored at the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services’ World NGO Day Fair on Wednesday.

Minister of Social Development and Family Services, Donna Cox, praised the excellent work being done by the NGOs, which play a critical role in ensuring that no one person is left behind. She noted their indispensable role in achieving the national development goals, and reiterated that the World NGO Day Fair brings together the local NGO community, international development partners, and stakeholders.

According to the Minister, during the last two years, more than 330 non-profit organisations received a total of $300 million in assistance from the Government for Social Programmes.

“Your work spans several other areas of national interest, including education, healthcare, environmental conservation, and social justice. It is through your dedication, perseverance, and willingness to collaborate with us that we have been able to see real, tangible changes in some communities.”

The Ministry’s Acting Permanent Secretary, Ryan Ramcharan, pledged continued support for NGOs through capacity-building initiatives, improved governance structures, and policy measures aimed at enhancing engagement and sustainability.

“The Ministry of Social Development and Family Services remains steadfast in its commitment to strengthening the social fabric of this nation. For many years, collaboration with NGOs has ensured that vulnerable individuals and families receive the care, support, and services they need.”

The World NGO Day Fair was held at the National Academy for the Performing Arts in Port of Spain.
