La Horquetta is one of the communities poised to receive a community swimming pool.
This, as the sod was officially turned for its construction on Friday.
The Community Swimming Pool will be completed at a cost of $8.3 million.
Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport and Community Development, David Roberts, said the La Horquetta Community Swimming Pool will yield lasting values for the people it is designed to serve.
“Through initiatives like April Pools, launched in 2022, we continue to expand access to swimming across Trinidad and Tobago. From Morvant to Maloney and now La Horquetta, the Programme offers free water safety and swim instruction to communities, building skills, saving lives, and nurturing natural talent.”
Like the pools introduced in other communities, Minister of Youth Development and National Service Foster Cummings said programmes will be done in conjunction with the Coast Guard.
“The pool will be a main competition training-size pool, which will be used to facilitate neighbouring communities, clubs and associations and conducting training, recreational and competitive swimming events. Somebody mentioned earlier that at this location we are going to be seeing, coming out of this space, some of the talent that can represent Trinidad and Tobago regionally and internationally.”
Minister Cummings said the Government is committed to making significant investments in the community of La Horquetta. The estimated time for completion is one year.
