Sri Lanka Beat Windies Women

The West Indies Women got off to a losing start on their tour of Sri Lanka going down by 6 wickets in the first One Day International in Hambantota where the game was shifted to in preference to the original venue in Galle.

The host won the toss and elected to field first and they got an early reward with the wicket of Rashada Williams, gone for 6 in the third over. There were some stuttering partnerships after that but the Windies never really got going with the highest score coming from Captain Hayley Matthews with 38. Stafanie Taylor was next best but when she was run out for 33 hopes of a competitive score faded as the West Indies were all out for 195 in 47.1 overs. Sugandika Kumari and Kavisha Dihari both getting three wickets for the home team.
Sri Lanka made light work of the chase, getting to 198 for 4 in 34.1 overs, with Harshitha Samarawickrama top scoring with 44 not out. Afy Fletcher and Aaliyah Alleyne got two wickets each for the West Indies, who will aim to level the series on Tuesday when the teams meet for game two from 12:30 am Eastern Caribbean Time.
