Tobago’s Studley Park Enterprise Limited (SPEL) was denied a license to export by the Minerals Advisory Committee.
On Wednesday, the Division of Infrastructure, Quarries and Urban Development provided information regarding the development.
The release noted that during an interview, the Division’s Secretary, Trevor James, informed there was a significant demand for Tobago’s rock in Guyana and, as such, SPEL, the subsidiary of the THA responsible for producing andesite rock, was readying itself to capitalise on the revenue opportunities.
Making reference to the Minerals Advisory Committee’s letter dated September 23rd,2022 the release mentioned the refusal to grant license was based on the limited availability of material on the local market.
The Tobago House of Assembly’s Executive Council and legal advisors are examining the matter.
