Technical Educators Needed

While Trinidad and Tobago continues to make space for technical education, Education Minister Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly is urging successful entrepreneurs to get involved in teaching others the trade. According to the Minister, this is the only way to expand Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

Speaking at the renewal of an MOU between Metal X Engineering Ltd and the Youth Training and Employment Partnership Programme (YTEPP), Education Minister Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly hailed youths for getting involved in technical training. The MOU that currently exists between both companies has been in existence for the last 12 years and has been responsible for training more than 100 persons.

Minister Gadsby-Dolly said Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programmes continue to be a priority. But the Minister noted that the same successful entrepreneurs coming out of these TVET programmes, should return their knowledge to the potential entrepreneurs in training, to ensure the technical programmes can be further developed.

Chairman of YTEPP, Thora Best applauded the MOU between Metal X and YTEPP to train young people and develop them into budding entrepreneurs and professionals in the industry. Through this training programme Metal X has been assisting in the development of our young people in the areas of fabricating and welding.

The programme currently takes place over a one-year period and comprises both a theoretical and practical component.
