Tenders for new mobile scanners are expected to be received by February 2023.
Speaking in the Lower House, Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley reminded that there is still one fixed operational scanner at the Port of Port of Spain. However, he noted that mobile scanners which were donated by the US became obsolete and confirmed that steps are being made to procure units.
Dr. Rowley said while Trinidad and Tobago is taking steps to impede efforts for illegal items to filter through, this country’s inspection rate is ‘above average.’
