THA Employee Charged

A 30-year-old man employed with the Office of the Chief Secretary of the Tobago House of Assembly has been detained in connection with illegal trafficking activities.

Tobago Divisional Task Force officers on mobile patrol on Saturday evening, along Joefield Trace, Lambeau, spotted a heavily tinted Mitsubishi Lancer being driven in a suspicious manner.

Officers stopped the vehicle which was occupied solely by a man from Lambeau Village. Upon searching the vehicle, officers found a Glock pistol, 15 rounds of 9 milli-metre ammunition, 613 grams of cannabis, 97 ecstasy pills, 410 TT Dollars, 14 US Dollars, 100 E-C Dollars, Two shortwave radios, a vacuum sealer, One ski mask, Several transparent packets, one digital scale and 27 Digicel SIM cards.

The man did not have a driver’s permit and was not the vehicle’s registered owner. The suspect, along with the vehicle and the seized items, were transported to the Scarborough Police Station for further processing.

In a post on his Facebook Page the Chief Secretary implores the TTPS to go after every criminal and get them and the guns off the streets. He told the police to turn the place upside down and grab hold of those that seek to threaten our way of life.

Regarding the man who was arrested with the illegal items, The Chief Secretary made it clear that NO STAFF BELONGING TO OR ASSIGNED TO THE CHIEF SECRETARY’S OFFICE WAS ARRESTED.

Mr. Augustine said his investigations revealed the suspect is a Business Operations Assistant 1 at the Registry department. He informed that the suspect was recently absent from work for approximately 40 days, which is in excess of sick leave eligibility.
