THA Hopes For Improved Water Supply In Tobago East

The Tobago House of Assembly looks forward to the positive results that are promised from the installation of a Water Treatment Plant in Goldsborough.

Speaking at the Ministry of Public Utilities’ Sod Turning Ceremony for the project on Wednesday, Deputy Chief Secretary Dr. Faith Brebnor lamented the challenges in water supply that residents in the East have been facing.

“In this area, though, the challenge is not just for residents. The challenge extends to the farmers who are in this area, particularly since Goldsborough, and dare I say, is the food basket of Tobago, and I see the representatives here from the Goldsborough and other farming associations. I’m happy that you are here as well because this is indeed a historic day.”

The Central Government and the Tobago House of Assembly collaborated on the project.

“When we got the call that this project needed to happen in Goldsborough, and when we got the call that this project needed to happen on lands that were already vested in the Tobago House of Assembly, we quickly ensured that what needed to happen happened very quickly so that these properties would be vested within WASA so that this project can continue.”

The Deputy Chief Secretary said the THA’s collaboration and speedy response demonstrate their commitment to doing what is necessary to meet the needs of Tobagonians.

The Goldsborough Water Treatment Plant is being installed at a cost of $50 million and is expected to be completed in the next eight months.
