The CEPEP Company awarded six (6) Bursaries to the children of CEPEP contractors’ workers this morning. The distribution ceremony took place at the Company’s head office in Ste Madeleine much to the delight of the students and their parents.
Chairman of the CEPEP Board of Directors, Marilyn Michael warmly welcomed the recipients and their parents to the distribution exercise. In her remarks, she explained that this programme is a developmental initiative for children who will go on to become highly productive members of society. “We have a family culture here at the CEPEP Company and that family is extended to our contractors and their workers and so we believe in assisting our family members.”
In his address to the students, Chief Executive Officer, Keith Eddy took the opportunity to inform them they were creating history today as they would be the first cohort of Bursary recipients under the newly established SEA Bursary Programme. He encouraged the students to enjoy their secondary life and to balance their academic studies with extracurricular activities as it would help to enhance their socialization skills and build friendships when he reminded them, “that your school days are the best days of your life.” He also thanked the parents in attendance for the support and encouragement that they provided to their children which allowed them to excel at the Secondary School Assessment (S.E.A) Examination this year.
The CEPEP Company launched its S.E.A Bursary Programme this year as a means of rewarding students who display excellence in academics. To qualify for the award of a Bursary, the parent must be currently employed by a CEPEP contractor, and the student would have had to attain excellent results in their exams. One recipient was selected from each region in which CEPEP operates. This year’s recipients are:
· Portia Bajnath (South-East Region)
· Zara Vallie (South-West Region)
· Dillian DeGannes (North-East Region)
· Bradana Holder (North Central Region)
· Kevon Patrick (North-West Region)
· Shaquille Douglas (Central Region)
This Bursary is also accessible to these students for the five (5) years of secondary school education providing that they maintain their academic standing every year.
