Tobago is seeing improvement in its cocoa production.
Earlier this week, the Division of Food Security shared reports from Mr. Duane Dove of Tobago Cocoa Estate. The release noted Mr. Dove is celebrating a successful cocoa season with the support of bird wailers provided by CARDI Caribbean, Shell TT and Digicel Trinidad and Tobago Foundation’s grant funding.
Mr. Dove informed that for the first time in several years, a healthy cocoa harvest at the Tobago Cocoa Estate is being witnessed. He explained cocoa trees are carrying heavy loads and no parrot damage is visible.
The system designed to deter parrots and Cocricos was installed at this estate in January. After an evaluation, it was launched in Tobago in March, where the benefits of the technology for cocoa farmers were shared, and live demonstrations were conducted.
