Tobago has recorded its single highest COVID-19 related death toll as 6 deaths occurred within the last 24 hours.
THA Secretary of Health, Wellness and Social Protection, Dr. Faith B.Yisrael says, unfortunately, Tobago’s small size and limited medical resources put the island in a very dangerous situation. She says Tobago’s 5-bed ICU is filled and overflowing and individuals trying to receive medical, non-COVID-19 related care, are unable to do so because the system is overwhelmed.
Dr. B. Yisrael is imploring persons to keep washing their hands, wearing masks correctly, social distancing, staying home when ill, and getting vaccinated. To date, Tobago has recorded 201 COVID-19 related deaths. Dr. B. Yisrael says this represents a case fatality rate that is the number of COVID-19 deaths divided by the number of positive cases.
In comparison, Trinidad and Tobago’s case fatality rate is 3.13%.
