TPP Reveals Candidates For April 28th General Election

The Tobago People’s Party (TPP) has revealed their two candidates vying for the Tobago East and West seats in the April 28th General Election.

On Sunday, scores of TPP supporters gathered for a special convention at Rovanel’s Resort.

In February, following a screening process, the Tobago People’s Party announced their selected Tobago East candidate was retired fire officer David Thomas. However, further screening was requested for Tobago West. On Sunday, it was revealed that Tobago House of Assembly Area Representative for Bon Accord/Crown Point, Joel Sampson, has now thrown his hat into the political ring at the national level.

“I have seen firsthand how many of Tobago’s challenges go beyond the Assembly’s reach. Issues like national security, budget allocations, and the fight for our fair share require strong representation at the national level. That’s why I am willing to step forward to make the move from area representative of Bon Accord/Crown Point to becoming your next Member of Parliament for Tobago West.”

Tobago East candidate David Thomas assured that with support from the TPP’s Executive, he will fight for autonomy in Parliament.

“I will be causing myself to become very much acquainted with them and the company of these gentlemen and ladies so that when I represent Tobago in Parliament. I am not saying if, you know, I say when I represent Tobago in Parliament, Tobago will know that you have a champion on board.”

TPP Political Leader Farley Augustine said the lead-up to April 28th would be an interesting journey. He said this is Tobago’s last chance at negotiations for self-determination.

Mr. Augustine called on candidates and TPP supporters to hit the ground as he explained the party would be speaking further on issues in the upcoming days.
